“Based on customer feedback, we are extending support for Skype 7 (Skype classic) for some time. Our customers can continue to use Skype classic until then,” said a spokesperson. “Thanks for all your comments – we are listening. We are working to bring all the features you’ve asked for into Skype 8.” It seems that Skype Classic’s days are still numbered, but the extension will at least give some relief. It won’t please the users whose main issue is the new design, but it should help those who rely on Classic’s feature set.
Not the First Skype Classic Scare
Still, it’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time the Skype Classic’s existence has come under scrutiny. A security scare in February led to Microsoft hiding its download for Windows 10 users. The app was then unavailable for over a month while the company worked on a fix, with some believing it would never come back. It’s easy to understand why users weren’t happy when Microsoft announced it would remove it after all a few months later. We suspect it won’t be so receptive to feedback the next time it tries to kill the app. However, with the end of support previously planned for September, it should at least last into 2019.
