Discovered by Bleeding Computer, the flaw has not been confirmed on the Windows Health page. However, Microsoft released a support note that confirmed the problem. “If you have a device running Windows 10 version 2004 with a built-in screen (such as a laptop or tablet) and a connected external display set to Duplicate your primary screen, you might see both monitors flicker and the external monitor go black if you try to draw using an Office app (such as Word),” Microsoft said. “This can also happen with some other apps capable of drawing, such as Whiteboard. If you check in Device Manager, your graphics controller will have a warning icon next to it (a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it).” In terms of Windows 10 May 2020 Update problems, this is relatively minor. It is also obscure enough that it won’t affect most users, even frequent flyers on Office. If you do experience this problem, the external display will work again once Windows 10 is restarted. Microsoft says a fix is coming but has not said when it will be available. “Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows 10 version 2004. We are working to fix the issue in a future version of the operating system.”

Mounting Issues

If this external display problem were the only issue facing Windows 10 May 2020 Update, it would be forgettable news. Unfortunately for early adopters of version 2004, that’s not the case. Microsoft latest feature release for the platform has numerous problems. Earlier this month, we reported on the new update causing Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) errors for some users. According to Microsoft, an incompatibility issue with Nvidia display driver version 358.00 or older triggers BSOD errors in Windows 10 May 2020 Update. Furthermore, an audio driver issue may also cause BSODs. Microsoft blocked the update across a wide range of devices, including some of its own Surface products. Microsoft has listed 10 issues that are currently under investigation. Nine of those problems have results in Microsoft putting a “compatibility hold” on some devices.
