If you’re unfamiliar with the feature, it can be used to clean up Windows installs without users needing to remove personal files. With PCs that come with bloatware, Fresh Start can help clear the clutter without compromising important files. However, users are finding Fresh Start is missing since the launch of Windows 10 May 2020 Update. This is interesting because it seems Microsoft also missed the tool. Certainly, Windows Insiders have been pointing out it is missing while previewing the May 2020 Update. In an update to its device and performance health page, Microsoft has offered an explanation. The company says Fresh Start has been removed from Windows Security and is merged with the “Reset this PC” option. That option can be found in Recovery settings through the Windows Settings app.
Finding Fresh Start
Users running Windows 10 May 2020 Update (version 2004) or newer will need to follow these steps to find Fresh Start:
Settings > Update and Security > Recovery > Reset this PC > Get Started > Keep my files Choose one of Cloud download or Local reinstall Select ‘No’ when asked, “Restore preinstalled apps?”
Microsoft points out sometimes the “Restore preinstalled apps?” option is not available. When this happens, it means the PC does not have OEM-installed apps that can be removed.
