A new Microsoft patent found by Windows Latest shows how Microsoft may keep information on the dual displays of the Surface Duo and Neo. Called “Control Logic”, the technology would help to determine in what level of folding the hinge is at. Microsoft’s patent is titled ‘DEVICE HAVING A SCREEN REGION ON A HINGE COUPLED BETWEEN OTHER SCREEN REGIONS’ and was published by USPTO on October 31, 2019, and filed by Microsoft on July 8, 2019. Logic Control on the Duo and Neo will manage the movement of the operating system elements from one screen to another. One of the aspects of the devices are how they can open and close into various form factors. “In accordance with this example, the control logic may determine an interface element (e.g., a virtual bookmark) to be displayed on the third screen region. In another example, the control logic may determine a notification to be displayed on the third screen region,” the patent describes.
Battery Meter
Earlier this month, we reported on another Microsoft Patent that describes a battery meter for the Duo. A recently applied Microsoft patent shows how the company wants to make it easier for users to keep track of their battery consumption. Specifically, the company describes a battery meter that will display more information. If applied to the Duo the technology would allow users to see how much battery they have left and see usage times under several scenarios.
