Microsoft told users to update the driver, but the patch did not work and Windows 10 version 1903 still caused an error. In an updated support document, Microsoft says it is now working on a fix and it will be ready by the end of the month. “We are working on a resolution and estimate a solution will be available in late August,” the support document reads. Until that fix is rolled out, users attempting to update to the May 2019 Update with affected Intel Rapid Storage will see the following message: “Intel Rapid Storage Technology (Intel RST): The inbox storage driver iastora.sys doesn’t work on these systems. And causes stability problems on Windows. Check with your software/driver provider for an updated version that runs on this version of Windows.”

In the meantime, users should install the new RST driver, which is version 15.5.2.1054 or later.

Intel Problems

Windows machines have had some issues related to Intel drivers recently. Intel issued a warning to Windows users who have downloaded its Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool (IPDT) to update as soon as possible. In a notice, the company says IPDT versions 4.1.2.24 and older have a vulnerability that can be exploited. “A potential security vulnerability in the Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool may allow escalation of privilege, denial of service, or information disclosure.  Intel is releasing software updates to mitigate this potential vulnerability.”
