When a user types into the current keyboard, Windows 10 uses Indian Phonetic keyboard to translate the typed words into a suggested Indic option. In a report, ONMSFT highlights how the feature works: “For instance, if we type “namaste” using the Phonetic keyboard, it will automatically suggest ?????? / ????? / ?????? in Hindi/Punjabi/Gujarati.” Windows Insiders can test the new Indian Phonetic keyboards as part of Windows 10 Preview Build 18272, which rolled out last month. Despite being with us for some time, only now is the feature being discovered. Preview Build 18272 was the release that brought changes to the Start menu experience. Specifically, users can now unpin more than one application from the Start Menu at once.
Availability
Microsoft has added the Phonetic keyboards alongside Indic Tradition INSCRIPT keyboards that have been part of Windows 10 since launch. If you are interested in testing the keyboards, navigate to Time & Language in the Settings app. Select the language button and add preferred keyboard. As with all Insider releases, the feature will be made available to all Windows 10 users later. As build 18272 is a Windows 10 19H1 preview, the Indic Phonetic keyboards will be widely available in the next major release.
